Bit of a cheat this week… well kind of. It’s essentially a door to nowhere.
Up the Manchester Road, behind the Station Hotel, there’s a large swathe of land that’s been earmarked for future development. In fact, if you search for the Station Hotel on google maps, one of the first images shows you what used to be on this patch of empty ground.
Originally, there were 5 tower blocks situated here; in addition to Bolingbroke Court, there were: Windsor Court, Stuart Court, Tudor Court and Hapsburg Court. Built in 1967, they were, at one time, the tallest structures in the city.
I’ve not been able to find any images of these modernist marvels in the prime of their life; best I can do you is an image of them being demolished or this Telegraph & Argus article that has them all done out in pre-demolition scaffolding.
