Dunluce Castle sits atop a rocky outcrop on the Antrim coast. It is not a particularly hospitable looking place, but there was once a bustling market town here. Unfortunately, it was destroyed in the uprising of 1641.

There’s been a castle on this site for centuries; an Irish fort probably existed here before the first iteration of the fortress appeared in the 13th century.

The castle was refurbished in the 17th century, by which point it was under the control of the MacConnell clan. They’d go on to lose a bit of cash owing to the Battle of the Boyne and its accompanying campaign, leading to the castle falling into disrepair.

There are a lot of long shots of the castle out there on the intarwebs showing how rugged and isolated Dunluce Castle looks atop its craggy throne, but I opted for more close ups; I wanted to get the texture and detail of the bricks that make up the castle itself. I feel like there are a lot more stories lurking within those bricks.
And I like stories.
I also like the same shots when done in black and white. See what you think:

For those wondering, the title of this post is a reference to this ad:
Specifically the bit where he says “there’s juice loose aboot this hoose” as this always pops into my head any time anybody says “Dunluce. ”
(Yes, yes, I know.)
