Greyabbey was established in 1193 and was around until about the middle of the 16th century when it was dissolved. It made a bit of a comeback in the 18th century but then a new church was built on a nearby hill, bits of which are still around today as St Saviour’s (with some additions.)…

By way of explanation as to why it’s been so quiet around here of late, a picture taken on the beach in my hometown. As you may surmise, the weather in the mother land is … changeable at best. I’ve left Japan but there’s still another 6 or 7 months worth of stations to post…

Took a walk along the Tamagawa today. Was just about to turn and head back when I saw this chap land in search of his lunch.

A case of life imitating art as this swallow copies one of the dolphins on the roof of Katase-Enoshima Station.

This little tanuki lives – I assume – in the grove that houses the Dragon Bell at the top of Enoshima. At first, I thought it was one of the island’s many feline residents coming towards me… but it was this chap. He took off into the bushes as soon as he saw me so…

I’m conflicted about zoos. I love to see the different kinds of animals but it often feels like a lot of them don’t seem to be living their best life. This zoo wasn’t too bad, as it turned out. Most of the animals seemed okay. The monkeys weren’t particularly cheerful looking and the porcupines looked…
